Overview

New sparkle for a historic movie theater.

The historic renovation of a prominent Canal Street property requires an expert to ensure success.  That’s why Quarter Holdings LLC engaged Impetus as the Design-Build contractor for the historic renovation of a four-story mixed-use building in the heart of downtown New Orleans. In a former life, this complex of buildings was the first permanent, for-profit movie theater in America.  It is one of the city’s best surviving examples of a cast-iron façade on a commercial building.

623-629 Canal Street now operates as The Vitascope luxury apartments, with many of the historic building’s original features preserved.  The property includes commercial space at the ground floor, short-term luxury rentals on floors two through four, and a new penthouse space on the top floor.  Designed by Impetus / Rozas Ward Architects, this project contributes to efforts to bring historic Canal Street properties back into commerce.
