Historic renovation and new construction of a former school campus into senior living apartments.
Neville Development engaged Impetus (formerly Palmisano) as the Design-Build contractor to lead the historic renovation, new construction, and conversion of the G.O. Mondy School campus into senior living. The project scope included renovating the main school building to make way for 19 units, restoring the dilapidated caretaker’s cottage into a single unit shotgun, and constructing a new building with 15 units. The building’s historic components were carefully reconstructed, restored and replaced, including trim from the windows and chalkboards, classroom doors, wood flooring, wainscoting, and classroom cabinets. Completed in 2017, this 36,335-square-foot property serves as a revitalized anchor point for the Seventh Ward community. Designed by HCI Architecture and Roderick A. Fifield Architect, LLC, the property continues to honor the legacy of its namesake, George O. Mondy, the first African-American to serve in the New Orleans Fire Department.
