A historic, 4-building former church and school campus in the Marigny neighborhood of New Orleans is brought back to life as a boutique hotel.
ASH NYC + Nathalie Jordi engaged Impetus (formerly Palmisano) as the Design-Assist contractor to lead the historic renovation of the 156-year-old Saints Peter and Paul Church and School into a 71-room, independently run boutique hotel located in the Marigny neighborhood of New Orleans. The property consists of four historic structures that sat abandoned and deteriorating for nearly two decades: school, rectory, church and convent buildings. The now 4-story school building is the largest on the campus and houses the majority of the hotel’s guest rooms. The rectory’s first floor includes a welcoming lounge area, coffee shop, bar and restaurant.
The church space was brought back to life by restoring plaster, stained glass and artwork as well as a modern HVAC system and restrooms. The church now accommodates events and community programming. Completed in 2018, the 102,000-square-foot Hotel Peter & Paul was designed by project architect, studioWTA. It is a unique space that blends seamlessly with the culturally-rich neighborhood and while adapting to the various needs of the hotel.
