Impetus’ Civil team delivers site, drainage, and runway improvements for a historic, landmark airport.
The The City of New Orleans Department of Public Works engaged Impetus (formerly Palmisano) as the lead contractor for site and drainage improvements to the Lakefront Airport located in New Orleans East, adjacent to the Industrial Canal. The airport was the largest airport in the U.S. at the time it opened in 1934 and was the first combined land and seaplane air terminal in the world.
This construction project included milling the existing runway surface, removing the existing marks from the intersecting taxiways, replace surface with hot mix asphalt, and install new airfield markings.
Additional drainage improvements include the removal and installation of two cross drain, installation of a coffer dam system, and improvements to side drainage. An additional 1 inch of asphalt overlay provides an overall thickness of 5 inches of overlay to the project.
Scheduled for completion in 2020, this Civil project was performed in partnership with Shrenk, Endom, and Flanagan.
