Overview
Respecting the past while addressing the future.
The new home for The New Orleans Advocate had to be a contemporary workspace for this newspaper publisher. Avenue Gallery LLC, the owner, selected a historic property along the iconic St. Charles Avenue in New Orleans Warehouse Arts District. As the Design Build contractor, Impetus the historic renovation. Through extensive site exploration and considerable collaboration, the team successfully restored many architecturally significant features, such as original masonry walls, barrel-vaulted ceiling, and exterior façade.
The renovation, designed by Mayo Wallin Architects and Dalton Architects, features a luminous lobby with a helical stairway, large viewing balcony for Mardi Gras parades, spacious open-concept newsroom, retail space, and an event space to host community gatherings. Completed in 2017, this 25,320-square-foot building pays respects to its mid-century modern origins, while giving new life to a formerly deteriorating building.
